Hazardous substances at waste water treatment plants -project
Largest project of its kind ever carried out in Finland to study the existence of 26 hazardous substances or group of substances in Finnish waste waters. Finnish Water Utilities Association coordinated study where concentrations of hazardous substances in municipal waste water treatment plants’ influent and effluent waters were analysed. Project involved 64 waste water treatment plants covering waste waters of about 3,25 million people. The aim for the project was to collect comprehensive information of how much hazardous substances load Finnish WWTPs, about their removal in the treatment processes and final concentrations in effluent water.
Envieno as a consult in the project was responsible for public tendering of laboratory analysis services, planning the sampling and analysing and reporting the results. More information about the project is available in Finnish language at the website of Finnish Water Utilities Association: http://www.vvy.fi/vesihuolto_linkit_lainsaadanto/jatevedet/haitalliset_aineet_-hanke_2013.
Final project report (in Finnish language) is available for downloading here.
